Who is StopODinAZ?

Kim Boardman, founder of StopODinAZ.org, has been a dedicated harm reduction activist since 2010, advocating for compassionate approaches to substance use issues. As a licensed master's level addictions counselor and a certified harm reduction therapist, Kim has earned the nickname "The Needle Lady" for her unwavering commitment to providing harm reduction services and support to her community. Her extensive work includes Narcan training and opioid education initiatives, which reflect her deep understanding of the challenges faced by those struggling with substance use. With numerous affiliations across various community organizations, Kim brings a wealth of experience and empathy to her efforts.

Mark D. Cain, co-founder of StopODinAZ.org, has been a colleague of Kim Boardman for nearly two decades. His background in street outreach and over 20 years of experience in opioid treatment programs have made him an invaluable asset. Known affectionately as "Methadone Mark," his deep-rooted dedication to helping individuals affected by substance use disorders has been instrumental in shaping the outreach and advocacy efforts at StopODinAZ.org, particularly in promoting harm reduction strategies.

We have seen people who use drugs treated poorly, like less than human.

This person refused to go to the emergency room, stating, “because they will put me in the room, turn out the lights and forget about me like they always do.” The staff at WVHE did their best to assist each week during Harm Reduction Friday, where we provided essential opioid education and Narcan training. We made amazing things happen on the sidewalk every Friday morning. Thank you, Charissa :)

StopOD is our attempt to make a difference. Thank you for helping to be the change

Next time you encounter a person experiencing homelessness, using drugs or experiencing a possible mental health crisis, pay attention to your first thought. The one thing we can all do to begin to remedy these and other societal issues, is to consider our first thought when we see a person experiencing life’s challenges. That is where change truly begins, in each individual member of society’s thinking. Be honest with yourself. When you saw the picture above, what was your first thought?

This website lacks all the bells and whistles. What you have found are people who are here to answer your questions about opioids. Anything. Unbiased and honest answers, you won’t find medical jargon or big words. What you will find is a place to ask your questions, get a reply and feel like you found what you were seeking.
